DFC
Outdoor Series Make-Up Air Heaters
Rooftop make-up air units are the most common approach to relieving negative pressure inside commercial and industrial facilities. Applied Air curb mounted units offer the advantage of a full support system that is watertight, provides a plenum for return air, and has easily accessible piping and electrical connections. The DFC series units are also available in recirculation and vertical configurations.
The DFC series units can deliver from 1,600 CFM to 100,000 CFM; with heat capacities from 131,000 BTUH to 14 million BTUH.

Patented DDC Controls Available
Most Precise Control
The DFC is capable of more precise temperature control and real time on-board diagnostics thanks to the patented Adaptaire DDC control system (Patent #7,059,536). Interfacing with local networks is made easier since the Adaptaire system supports BACnet, LON, N2, and Modbus. In cases where it is beneficial to use return air for even greater energy savings the DFC is fitted with an airflow station that the Adaptaire controls use to monitor the ratio of outside air to return air in order to ensure safe discharge air conditions. The velocity probe array plus the Adaptaire controller are capable of maintaining the return air/outside air ratio within 5% accuracy at all damper positions.
Application Flexibility
Save Roof Load
While it is most common to install the DFC product on a roof curb there are applications where that method is not appropriate. In older buildings the roof structure might not have been designed with sufficient strength to accommodate a new unit. Because the DFC is available in a vertical configuration and designed with a weather resistant cabinet that can be installed outdoors on a stand.
DX or Chilled Water Coil Option
Cooling Plus Efficient Heat
Applied Air DFC units offer great versatility in terms of application. In cases where you need to provide cooling in addition to heating in a large make-up air unit (up to 50,000 cfm) the DFC can be ordered with a coil module. The coil module is located downstream of the burner and fan near the supply air opening. This configuration not only avoids potential problems if a refrigerant leak occurs but also provides sufficient space for a stainless steel drain pan and for more fully developed flow over the coil.
Direct Fired Burner Design
Burners Built to Last
Direct fired burners in DFC units, and all Applied Air direct fired units, feature cast iron gas burner pipes with stainless steel burner plates. This material combination is field proven to last for decades with only an occasional cleaning of the orifices. An optional aluminum gas burner pipe is also available.
Factory Assembled Gas Train
Tested and Ready to Fire
All Applied Air DFC products and completed assembled and factory tested against leaks and operational faults. Each unit test results are documented and stored by unit serial number. Start up and service questions can then be compared to the conditions recorded at the factory prior to shipment.
Unique Air Distribution Option
Revolving Discharge for Broad Area Coverage
One of the more unique options for the DFC is the "Revolving Discharge". Unlike conventional fixed diffusers or grills this gear driven supply air discharge attachment rotates at 1 rpm spreading the tempered and filtered air over a broad floor area. This is particularly effective in very tall spaces and allows a single unit to cover as much area as multiple smaller units with fixed discharge arrangements.
Available Direct Drive Plenum Fan
Increased Efficiency Air Delivery
One of the options that can further increase the efficiency of the DFC even further is the selection of either a single direct drive plenum fan or an array of direct drive plenum fans. These air handlers can be selected with VFD speed control when the optional Adaptaire DDC control system is selected as well.
FACTORY MOUNTED AND WIRED VFD OPTIONAL
Match Fan Speed to Demand
The already lower operating costs of the DFC unit can be further enhanced with the optional VFD for the supply fans. Building thermal loads can vary widely, especially in very large warehouses and factories that might be operating 24/7. Adding the VFD option to the DFC, and integrating it with the Adaptaire DDC system, can result in significant operating cost savings by matching fan speeds to the demands of the building.
V-Bank Filters
Particle Free Outside Air
In addition to providing a highly efficient source of tempered outside air for negative pressure make-up, or even a source of space heating in some cases, the DFC product line provides the option of a V-bank filter module with racks to accommodate up to 2 inch thick filter. You get efficient heat and cleaner air entering the space.
Outside Air Intake Hood
Limt Entrainment of Rain or Critters
The optional DFC intake hood is designed for air intake velocities of under 450 FPM in order to limit the possibility of rain entering the space. In addition the intake hood comes with a built-in bird screen to help keep unwanted visitors our of the building. The hood can even include a filter rack for washable filters to preclean the air before even entering the unit.
