Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a 3D modeling technology, similar to CAD. Due to the enhanced features and functionality of BIM objects, they are rapidly replacing CAD as the preferred design tool used by building designers. Manufacturer-specific objects provide information simulating the real-world characteristics and specifications of a product as it would exist within a building as well as essential product information.

Design and construction times are reduced due to the ease with which BIM can be used to integrate HVAC equipment into the overall MEP design early in the process. This both reduces the overall cost of the construction, as well as frees up time for other projects.

Mestek has created a library of BIM objects for free download and use by the design community. Objects are available in the Autodesk Revit MEP .RFA format. Many objects are stored as .ZIP files. Some objects require the saving of both an .RFA file and a .TXT file in order to function correctly. When necessary, both of those files are included in the single .ZIP file. Simply download the files to your computer or server, unzip the files to the location of your BIM library, and they will be ready to use.
